Trucker arrested for DUI, resisting arrest and other charges

Truckers are a critical part of the economy in Pennsylvania and throughout the United States. Given the current state of affairs, that is truer than ever. Still, drivers are required to adhere to the law and ensure they do not commit violations that can result to citations and arrest. If a driver is confronted with charges of driving under the influence, it can negatively impact the job, deprive that person of freedom and cause other challenges in life. A legal defense may be essential to deal with the case.

A trucker was at an Amazon Fulfillment Center and was allegedly showing signs of being intoxicated when law enforcement investigated. He was then accused of resisting the state troopers and arrested. The 53-year-old trucker is from Brooklyn, New York. It was shortly after midnight and the man was struggling to connect the trailer. Another worker took his keys away.

When troopers arrived, the man was sitting in the cab of his truck. He did not comply with orders to exit. He is then accused of reaching up to a compartment when an officer grabbed him to stop him. The troopers and the man engaged in a struggle. The man still refused to exit the vehicle. Eventually, he was dragged out. Officers said he continued to resist their efforts to handcuff him and they used a Taser to subdue him.

The compartment had a stapler and papers. Officers said they found a glass that smelled of alcohol. The trucker’s eyes were bloodshot, he gave off an odor of alcohol and his speech was slurred. When questioned, other workers said the trucker nearly hit them as he drove into the yard. The man is charged with numerous offense including DUI, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment.

DUI charges are difficult enough to deal with. These can lead to the loss of driving privileges, fines and jail time. If it is a person who drives for a living on a commercial license, the threshold for a driver’s license suspension is lower and a conviction could cost the person his or her livelihood. In addition, other charges such as resisting arrest and assault could be lodged. For anyone facing DUI and other charges in Pennsylvania, it is wise to prepare a strong defense. There could be mitigating circumstances, the troopers might have overreacted or other issues could be relevant. A law firm with experience in DUI and criminal defense may be able to help with a case.
