Man facing DUI charges following high-speed car chase

A Pennsylvania man was taken into custody on June 17 after he allegedly fled from police, resulting in a high-speed chase. The incident occurred at about 1:38 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 in the area of Franklin Farm Lane.

Authorities said that the man was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he was clocked at speeds of 70 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. A trooper, who was driving in an unmarked police vehicle, turned on his emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop. The Jeep reportedly sped up to 90 miles an hour until it got stuck behind another vehicle and was stopped.

The man, who was identified as a 34-year-old Fayetteville man, was taken into custody. At this time, the trooper reported that he smelled the odor of alcohol and that the driver had slurred speech and glassy eyes. The man refused to take a blood test, so a warrant to obtain a blood test was obtained. The man reportedly still refused. He was charged with driving under the influence, attempting to elude authorities, obstruction of justice and reckless endangerment. He was being held on $100,000 bail in Franklin County Jail.

Depending on the circumstances surrounding an alleged drunk driving incident, the legal consequences could be quite severe. In some cases, these consequences may include jail time, heavy fines and a loss of the person’s driving privileges. A criminal law attorney may provide a defense against the drunk driving charges. After investigating, the attorney may be able to have certain evidence be excluded from the case. Inconsistencies or weaknesses might cause the prosecution to reduce the charges or drop the charges altogether.
