Man facing DUI charges after being stopped by motorists

Authorities say that two motorists were responsible for stopping a suspected drunk driver on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. While police thanked the two motorists, they said that the incident should have been reported so that the authorities could handle it.

At about 10 p.m. on Nov. 30, two drivers were traveling on the turnpike in North Sewickley when they observed the vehicle in front of them weaving across multiple lanes. The driver reportedly almost struck a concrete median and the embankment on the other side. The two drivers worked together by shouting at each other through open windows. One driver did alert authorities to the situation. The two drivers pulled their vehicles together, blocking the two lanes, and activated their flashers. They then used their two vehicles to force the alleged drunk driver to move to the shoulder.

Authorities said that the two drivers were even able to get the man out of his vehicle and obtain his keys. The alleged drunk driver, who was identified as a 53-year-old Waynesburg resident, was charged with drunk driving.

When a person is charged with drunk driving, he or she could face a variety of legal and administrative punishments. While there are factors that can make the potential punishments more severe, a person facing his or her first drunk driving charge could face a jail sentence and be required to undergo alcohol education or rehabilitation. A criminal law attorney may review the evidence and case against the accused person and look for weaknesses that could result in a dismissal. This might include analyzing the breath test results or other DUI tests that may have been conducted incorrectly.
